Funeral services for George H. Mikeworth, 81, of Ashkum will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 1, 2013 at the Knapp Funeral Home in Clifton. The Rev. Sandy Onken will officiate. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Thursday also at the funeral home. Burial, with Military Honors by Central VFW Post 2131, will be in the Ashkum Cemetery. Mr. Mikeworth passed away Monday, July 29, 2013 at Faith Place in Danforth following a lengthy illness. Memorials may be made to Faith Place.
Mr. Mikeworth was born on December 30, 1931 in Melvin, the son of Frank Orville and Mamie Lenore Mickens Mikeworth and his parents are deceased. He married the former Ruth M. Harms on November 6, 1955 in Kankakee and she preceded him in death on February 16, 1972.
Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law and one son and daughter-in-law, Marcia (Rodney) Papineau of Clifton, Michelle (Dean) Redenius of Ashkum and Michael (Ellen) Mikeworth of Ashkum.
Also surviving are nine grandchildren, Lucas (Amy) Papineau, Lacey (Beau) Johnson, Elissa Mikeworth, Tara (Mitch Cambridge) Mikeworth, Dylan Mikeworth, Julie (Joe) Kolosky, Kelly (Jessie) Barnhill, Heidi (Brice Breymeyer) Redenius, and Jeff (Kimmy Lange) Redenius; eight great grandchildren, Benjamin, Savannah, Jase, Baily, Charlie, Kohlton, Klayton and Alyssa; one brother, Lloyd Mikeworth of Onarga; and one sister, Virginia DeFries of Evansville, IN.
In addition to his parents and his wife, he was also preceded in death by a son, Mark; 5 brothers, Wesley, Raymond, Elvin, Roger and Dennis; and 2 sisters, Bethel and Mary.
Mr. Mikeworth was a member of the Ashkum United Methodist Church. He was a former Ashkum Village trustee and was mayor of Ashkum from 1977-1985. For many years he had been involved with the Ashkum Athletic Association, The Red Cross and was a member and former president of Danforth Sportsman Club. He was a longtime deputy with Iroquois County and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police. He was a former longtime Cub and Boy Scout Leader and was former coordinator of the Ashkum ESDA Unit. Mr. Mikeworth was a veteran of the Army during the Korean Conflict and was a member of Central VFW Post 2131. He had worked for UPS, Masterpiece Mirror, Occidental Chemical, F-S, Rabideau Grain and had retired from Tri-Central Co-Op where he was in Fertilizer Sales.
